It is important to get an early accurate diagnosis of knee degeneration (which is termed osteoarthritis) as there are some interventions that are either more effective or only suitable in these beginning stages, before there is more advanced joint destruction. This talk that I gave recently to GPs and MSK specialists in my local area uses a case study and summary slides to demonstrate how to diagnose early osteoarthritis, what to look out for, and what the management options are. Getting an NHS referral to see me can be difficult and often needs to go through an MSK (musculoskeletal) pathway first, but there are some early osteoarthritis features to look out for that could warrant a more direct referral for advice.
